About PDF Tools

Free browser-based PDF tools - merge, compress, rotate, split, extract pages, add watermarks, protect with passwords, strip metadata, and extract text - all without uploading your documents to any server. Built on pdf-lib, a pure JavaScript PDF library that runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. No file size restrictions, no account required, and no risk of your confidential documents being stored on third-party servers. Whether you're preparing documents for submission, archiving, sharing, or printing, these tools handle the full PDF workflow.

When to use PDF Tools

  • 1Combining multiple PDFs: use PDF Merge to combine invoices, contracts, reports, or scanned pages into a single document before sending.
  • 2Reducing email attachment size: compress a PDF before attaching it - particularly effective on scanned documents which can often be reduced by 60โ€“80%.
  • 3Before sharing confidential documents: strip metadata with the PDF Metadata Editor to remove author name, company, creation timestamps, and application name.
  • 4Document security: add a password (PDF Password tool) or visible watermark (PDF Watermark) before distributing sensitive documents.
  • 5Extracting content: use PDF Text Extractor to copy text from a PDF report for use in a document or spreadsheet, or PDF Extract to pull specific pages into a new file.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my PDF files uploaded when I use these tools?+
No. All PDF processing uses pdf-lib, a JavaScript library that runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF files are never sent to any server. Processing happens locally on your device, making these tools safe for confidential contracts, legal documents, and financial records.
Why is my compressed PDF still large?+
PDF compression is most effective on scanned image-heavy PDFs. Text-based PDFs are already compact and compress less dramatically. If your PDF contains high-resolution photos or scanned pages, the compression tool can reduce size significantly by downsampling embedded images.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?+
You need to remove the password first using the PDF Password tool (you must know the current password). Once unlocked, merge the PDFs normally. You can re-apply password protection afterward.
What does removing PDF metadata do?+
PDF metadata includes the author's name (often your real name from Windows/Mac account settings), company name, the application that created the file (Word, Acrobat, LibreOffice), and creation/modification timestamps. Removing it before sharing protects your privacy and prevents information leakage.
