Cookie Notice

Last updated: April 2026

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They allow the website to remember information about your visit, such as whether you are signed in. Cookies can be session-based (deleted when you close your browser) or persistent (retained for a set period).

2. Cookies we use

Searchlight uses only strictly necessary session cookies, set by NextAuth.js, our authentication library. These cookies are essential for you to sign in and use the service.

3. Why no consent banner is required

Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), consent is not required for cookies that are strictly necessary for a service explicitly requested by the user. All cookies used by Searchlight fall into this category — they exist solely to maintain your authenticated session.

We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party tracking cookies. There is nothing optional to consent to.

4. Third-party cookies

When you are redirected to external services, those services may set their own cookies on their own domains:

  • PayPalmay set cookies on PayPal.com when you complete or manage your subscription payment. These are governed by PayPal's own cookie policy.
  • Googlemay set cookies on accounts.google.com during the OAuth sign-in flow. These are governed by Google's own cookie policy.

We have no control over cookies set on third-party domains and are not responsible for them.

5. How to manage cookies

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:

  • View cookies currently stored on your device
  • Delete all or specific cookies
  • Block cookies from specific sites
  • Block all third-party cookies

Important: blocking or deleting the session cookies listed above will prevent you from signing in to Searchlight, as they are essential for authentication.
