Why we built this
Most SEO platforms charge £100–£500 per month for access to data that is already available in your own Google Search Console account. We built Searchlight to surface that data directly - no third-party database, no estimated traffic figures, no sampling. Just your actual performance data from Google, filtered and presented in ways that make it actionable.
The standalone tools grew from the same frustration: common developer and productivity tasks require either a paid SaaS subscription or uploading sensitive data to an unknown server. We build these tools to run entirely in your browser so your files and data never leave your device.
How we operate
Browser-first by design
Most tools run entirely in your browser using the Web APIs and WebAssembly. Your images, PDFs, and data never leave your device. There is no server processing, no file retention, and no exposure to third parties.
Read-only Google OAuth
The GSC-connected tools request read-only access to your Google Search Console data via OAuth 2.0. We can read your performance data, not write to it. We never store raw GSC data beyond the current session.
No data reselling, ever
We do not sell, share, or monetise user data in any form. Searchlight is funded by users who find it valuable enough to support directly, not by advertising or data brokerage. This constraint is permanent, not a policy subject to revision.
No dark patterns
No infinite free trials that silently become paid. No confusing pricing. No email harvesting disguised as features. Every tool is genuinely free to use - no paywalls, no feature gating.

How the GSC tools work
The GSC-connected tools - GSC Dashboard, Opportunity Finder, CTR Finder, Cannibalization Checker, Keyword Tracker, Anomaly Detector, and Content Gap Finder - connect to Google Search Console via read-only OAuth 2.0.
We request the minimum scope needed: https://www.googleapis.com/auth/webmasters.readonly. This means we can read your Search Console data but cannot make any changes to your account, property, or settings. We do not store raw query-level GSC data on our servers.
