What is EXIF data?+
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in JPEG, TIFF, and RAW photos by digital cameras. It records camera settings, date/time, and optionally GPS location when the photo was taken.
Can EXIF data reveal my location?+
Yes. If your phone's location services were enabled, GPS coordinates are saved in the EXIF data. Anyone with the original file can read them. This tool helps you verify what location data your photos contain.
How do I remove EXIF data from a photo?+
Export with 'Remove metadata' enabled in your photo editor, or use an online EXIF remover. On macOS, Preview can strip metadata. On Windows, use File Properties > Details > Remove Properties.
Why doesn't my photo have GPS data?+
Location data is only recorded if you granted the camera app location access. DSLRs and mirrorless cameras don't have built-in GPS unless connected to an external GPS unit.
